Kyarkoti Trek | Harsil Valley

Another gem of Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, Kyarkoti trek will leave you spell bound with its forests, lake and majestic views of the mountains! Kyarkoti is an alpine meadow in Harsil Valley of Uttarakhand. It is a 14km trek from the village Harsil.

The trek takes you along the Lamkhaga Pass route that connects to Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh. Walk along alpine forests of  Cedar, pine and birch and cross little streams along the way. Marvel at the emerald green waters of the Kyarkoti lake.

You may also chance upon large herds of sheep being herded into the meadows for grazing. Most of these are from Bagori Village which is famous for its woolens. Stunning views of Mt Srikanth and numerous unnamed peaks will fill your heart to the brim.

And that’s not all, at the end of a tiring day, dig into our lip smacking food and tuck yourself warm in our cozy tents!

The best time to do this trek is from April to November. The trail receives heavy snowfall in the winters.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Harsil

Check in to a hotel. Tonight dinner will be on us!

Day 2
Harsil to Lower Kyarkoti - 8km trek

After a hearty breakfast, we set out on our first day of trek. The trail is fairly flat for the first km after which it is a steep ascent for the next 3km. There is a small temple here that is revered by the locals, Lal Devta Mandir. The presiding deity is worshipped mainly by the villagers of Bagori.
The next 4km are relatively flat and will bring you comfortably to your first camp site for the day. The camp site is under a natural canopy of alpine forests.

Day 3
Lower Kyarkoti to Upper Kyarkoti - 7km trek

Today, we set out after breakfast to the alpine meadow of Kyarkoti. It is an undulating trail of gradual ascents and descents along beautiful meadows.

Day 4
Explore Kyarkoti

After breakfast, we take a day hike towards Lamkhaga Pass that connects to Himachal Pradesh. We will be able to go only up to the base camp of Lamkhaga Pass. On the way, we will come across a beautiful emerald green lake.
We will be back to our camp site at Upper Kyarkoti.

Day 5
Upper Kyarkoti to Lower Kyarkoti 7km trek)

Today we trace our steps back to Lower Kyarkoti

Day 6
Lower Kyarkoti to Harsil - 8km trek

We trace our steps back to Harsil and check in to the hotel.
Evening is at your leisure.

Day 7
Check out

After breakfast, check out of the hotel.
