Leh Road Trip

Your travel diary will be incomplete without a road trip in Leh. While you can always fly down to Ladakh, it is more fun and adventurous to ride a bike or even a jeep from Manali to Leh.

Besides the must visits to the pristine Pangong Lake and the remote Nubra Valley, Ladakh has a lot more to offer.

Spend a night or two at Lamayuru, trek to the most remote Phugtal monastery or Phugtal gompa in Zanskar, participate in an expedition to Stok Kangri or trek to Markha Valley – the possibilities in Ladakh are endless. Overview

This is a road trip covering the major highlights of Leh in a tempo traveller or SUV based on group size. Ladakh is a land of beautiful landscapes and quaint old monasteries. Close to Leh, The monasteries at Lamayuru, Thiksey and Shey will be included in the trip.

Closer to Kargil, one can visit the Mulbekh Monastery that houses the Maitreya Buddha who is still yet to come. At Nubra Valley, too, there is a colossal Buddha statue and a beautiful monastery.

Overnight stays will be in Homestays and in hotels only where home stays are not available.

Itinerary

Arrive at Leh and we will help you check in to your homestay. Today you will rest. In the evening, visit Leh market and Leh Palace.

Day 2 :
Leh

Visit some monasteries like Thiksey and Shey monastery, Shey Palace. In the evening, visit Shanti Stupa

Today it will be a ride of 250km to Kargil. This beautiful highway is full of picturesque views. We will reach Kargil comfortably by evening and check into a hotel. On the way, you will visit the Mulbekh monastery that houses the Maitreya Buddha who is believed is still yet to come.

We will visit the war memorial at Dras today which is dedicated to the martyrs of the Kargil War of 1999 with Pakistan. It gives one goosebumps to wonder how a war could've been fought in this inhospitable terrain. After spending time here, we return to Lamayuru and halt here for the night. We prefer offering a halt at Lamayuru as the view of the sunset from here is to die for! Lamayuru's beauty is enhanced during dusk and this is the best time to soak in the sights and sounds of the place.

In the morning, we visit the Lamayuru monastery. Lamayuru is one of the oldest villages in Leh. We will return to Leh and check in to a homestay.

Today we traverse the 2nd highest motorable mountain pass, the Changla Pass, to enter the Pangong Valley. The lake needs no introduction. A beautiful turquoise blue salt water lake.

We ride along the Shyok river today to reach Nubra Valley. It is a desert here and one can find the Bactrian camel here that has a double hump. We will arrange a local cultural show here for you (subject to availability).

In the morning today, we visit the Diskit monastery. The views from the monastery are stunning. On our return to Leh we will be travelling across the world's highest motorable pass, Khardungla. Overnight in Leh

Today, after breakfast, our services for our esteemed guests will end.
