Lamkhaga Pass Trek

Experience the thrill of striding into one state from another in the Lamkhaga Pass trek! A challenging yet scenic trek spanning across 10 days, the Lamkhaga Pass connects Garhwal, Himalayas to Sangla Valley of Himachal Pradesh.

The trail starts from the village of Harsil in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It takes one across the picturesque Kyarkoti trail. You will cross the Lamkhaga Pass to enter the village of Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh.

Walk along alpine forests of  Cedar, pine and birch and cross little streams along the way. Marvel at the emerald green waters of the Kyarkoti lake.

You may also chance upon large herds of sheep being herded into the meadows for grazing. Most of these are from Bagori Village which is famous for its woolens. Stunning views of Mt Srikanth and numerous unnamed peaks will fill your heart to the brim.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Harsil

Check in to a hotel. Tonight dinner will be on us!

Day 2
Harsil to Gangnani/Lower Kyarkoti - 8km trek

After a hearty breakfast, we set out on our first day of trek. The trail is fairly flat for the first km after which it is a steep ascent for the next 3km. There is a small temple here that is revered by the locals, Lal Devta Mandir. The presiding deity is worshipped mainly by the villagers of Bagori.
The next 4km are relatively flat and will bring you comfortably to your first camp site for the day. The camp site is under a natural canopy of alpine forests.

Day 3
Gangnani/Lower Kyarkoti to Upper Kyarkoti - 7km trek

Today, we set out after breakfast to the alpine meadow of Kyarkoti. It is an undulating trail of gradual ascents and descents along beautiful meadows.

Day 4
Upper Kyarkoti to Lamkhaga Pass Base Camp

Today we will trek to the base camp of Lamkhaga Pass.

Day 5
Acclimatization

Today we will acclimatize by gaining some height and then returning to base camp.

Day 6
Base Camp to Gundar via Lamkhaga Pass

Today is the day! We’re going to cross the Lamkhaga pass today, standing at 5300m approx. and then trek down to Gundar. We will set up camp here today.

Day 7
Gundar to Dumti

Our descent to Sangla Valley begins. Today we descend to Dumti.

Day 8
Dumti to Rani Kanda

We will descend further to Rani Kanda.

Day 9
Rani Kanda to Chitkul

Today we will stride into Chitkul. We’re in Himachal Pradesh now!
Overnight in a homestay/guestouse in Chitkul

Day 10
Depart from Chitkul

After breakfast, you depart from Chitkul.

The cost includes

  • 1Night accommodation in Harsil inclusive of breakfast and dinner.

The cost excludes

  • GST of 5%
  • Accommodation at Chitkul.
  • Transfers to/from Harsil. It can be arranged from Dehradun at an additional cost. Please reach out to us if you need the same.
  • Porters for carrying personal luggage. It can be arranged at an additional cost of INR 800 per day per 10kg load of rucksack.
  • Personal Insurance.
